Coaching Workshops

The following workshops are free of charge to ClubGolf helpers, coaches and PGA Professionals. Places are confirmed on a first come, first served basis. PGA Professionals will be credited with 15 CPD points by The PGA for successful participation of this workshop. Check out the full list of topics below!

1: Games for Learning

Description: This workshop will equip you with the skills, knowledge and resources to plan and deliver fun games based sessions where participants can learn all the fundamental golf skills through new, challenging and exciting games.

Who is it for? Volunteer coaches, helpers, PGA pros    

Why should I attend? It’s an opportunity to learn new fun games which can be delivered in a fun-focused environment. You’ll leave with new resources and lots of ideas.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this workshop coaches will be able to:

  • Understand the benefits of making sessions fun
  • Know when and how to use different coaching methods
  • Understand and practice the concept of using games to aid learning
  • Share good practice amongst other likeminded coaches

2: Planning for fun

Description: This workshop will teach you how to plan a fun based coaching programme. .

Who is it for? Volunteer coaches, helpers, PGA pros    

Why should I attend? You will learn how to increase the enjoyment of your sessions for players through incorporating key skills into fun games.   You will also leave with a 10 week coaching programme planned out which focuses on progressive skill development in a fun environment.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this workshop coaches will be able to:

  • Plan a 10-week coaching programme which develops fundamental golfing skills in a progressive and fun way
  • Identify the key components of a fun-based coaching session
  • Explore the revised ClubGolf resources
  • Share ideas and good practice amongst like-minded coaches

Length of Workshop: 3 Hours 

3: Building effective coach-player relationships

Description: This workshop will give you the opportunity to enhance your coaching communication skills. You will learn how the various methods of communication can influence your players enjoyment, motivation, learning and future involvement in the game.

Who is it for? Volunteer coaches, helpers, PGA pros    

Why should I attend? You will learn how to communicate more effectively with your players to ensure you are getting the best out of them.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this workshop coaches will be able to:

  • Understand how to communicate effectively in a junior golf setting
  • Demonstrate the various methods of feedback and know when to use them
  • Use effective communication skills to build coach/player relationship
  • Be aware of verbal and non-verbal communication styles and know when to use them
  • Understand personal strengths and areas for improvement in this key coaching skill

Length of Workshop: 3 Hours

4: Workshop for Level 2 Coaches - Sharing Best Practice

Description: This workshop will give Level 2 Coaches the opportunity to share their coaching experiences, thoughts and ideas with their peers. During this workshop there will also be the opportunity for coaches to highlight specific areas they wish to develop in their coaching (planning, delivery & review) and a chance to address some of these development areas during the workshop to add to their coaching knowledge.

Who is it for? Level 2 volunteer coaches, PGA trainee assistant pros

Why should I attend? It’s an opportunity to learn, develop and refresh your Level 2 coaching skills.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this workshop coaches will be able to:-

  • Share good practice amongst other like-minded coaches
  • Learn how to apply new coaching ideas in practice
  • Create a personalised development plan based on level 2 coaching capabilities
  • Begin to address some key capabilities identified on their person development plan

Length of Workshop: 3 Hours

The following workshops are also provided free of charge and can be organised locally on demand at your golf club or facility. There is a requirement to have a minimum of 6 coaches/helpers attending the workshop. 5: Helpers Workshop

Description: This workshop will reflect upon the current role you play to support junior golf at your club and identify areas that you can develop to enhance the quality of coaching sessions

Who is it for? Anyone considering helping with junior coaching                  

Why should I attend? This workshop will enable you to build on your current skills and will act as a useful stepping stone introducing some of the basic concepts delivered during a level 1 coaching qualification.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this workshop helpers will be able to:

  • Understand the role of a helper
  • Ensure activities are set up safely
  • Understand personal strengths and areas for improvement as a helper
  • Share good practice amongst other likeminded helpers

Length of Workshop: 3 Hours

6: Sharing Best Practice

Description: This workshop will explore what effective ClubGolf coaching looks like, sharing good practice with other coaches and action planning for improved future delivery.  

Who is it for? Volunteer coaches, helpers, PGA pros    

Why should I attend? To develop a better understanding of how effective ClubGolf coaching practice can be used to enhance player participation and development.

Learning outcomes: By the end of this workshop candidates will be able to:

  • Identify and deliver good coaching practice
  • Share ideas and good practice with other likeminded coaches
  • Understand personal strengths and areas for improvement in this area

Length of Workshop: 3 Hours

 

7: Coach Developer Forum

Description: This workshop will provide information about the coach developer role, including areas of support available to coaches.  It will start the process of identifying the key support available to meet your needs as a coach. 

Who is it for? Volunteer coaches, helpers, PGA pros, club managers, junior convenors                              

Why should I attend?  You will have an opportunity to meet and communicate with the coach developers and find out what support they are able to offer you to help you develop your coaching.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this workshop coaches will be able to:

  • Fully understand the role of the coach developer and how they can support you as a coach or helper.  
  • Identify the support available to meet your personal or team development goals
