Braehead Golf Club is the newest club in Clackmannanshire to offer coaching through the national junior programme ClubGolf.

The sign up of the club in Cabus, near Alloa, represents a significant landmark for the area's golf.

Alloa, Alva, Dollar, Muckhart and Tillicoultry Golf Clubs are already signed up to ClubGolf and seeing the benefits. The addition of Braehead means every local club is now on board with the programme.

And having all six clubs delivering ClubGolf means P5 children being introduced to golf in local schools will have better opportunities to develop their skills through club coaching.

Braehead's junior section has been declining in recent years so coming on board with ClubGolf will help reverse the trend.

"I have been coaching our own juniors for three years, but this is the first time I've done ClubGolf coaching with the primary school children," said Jamie Stevenson, Braehead's PGA Pro, who is coaching a dozen pupils from St John's and Abercrombie Primary School through the new venture.

"About half of the group are from non golfing families, and they are all pretty keen and off and running.  Hopefully we will end up getting them into the club because they are the future of the game."

Said ClubGolf's Central Scotland Regional Manager, Mandy Martin:  "Having Braehead on board delivering ClubGolf is great news for the area.

"Having every golf club in Clackmannanshire offering ClubGolf coaching means that every child in Clackmannanshire who has played ClubGolf's school game will have a local club offering coaching where they can develop their skills."
